Windows vista not geniune RRS feed

  • Question

  • Ok so I have a dell studio 1735 we got it factory refurbished from dell 5 or 6 years ago, and it worked ok until recently. First it wouldn't start a bunch of services like DHCP client and BFE finally I fixed the DHCP client the BFE still doesn't work, but then all the sudden it started saying in the lower right corner of the screen "windows vista (TM) build 6002 this copy of windows is not genuine. It didn't really change anything at first, but I can't install windows updates or update microsoft security essentials definitions so I dont know if those are related or not, but then it said that security essentials will only be valid for another 30 days, and from what I have read windows eventually shuts down so I'd like to fix it before then it is windows vista home premium 32 bit.

    Thanks any help is appreciated!

    Wednesday, May 8, 2013 5:39 AM
  • so I did a fix from another website which had me copy a file into notepad name it as a registry entry then double click it and restart the computer the computer no longer says that windows is invalid, and security essentials appears to have updated, and I was able to start the software licensing service, but then it just stopped again, and now I cannot restart it with the same error code and therefore still cannot do windows updates

  • The long list of file mismatches implies that the licensing store is corrupt.

The SLCSVC is not running as needed.

Something has altered the security settings for the system - and it now is more broken than when you started.

What EXACTLY was the 'fix' you applied? - please provide a link?

Can you use System Restore to get back to a point before you applied this fix??

  • I tried before, but it wouldn't let me post the link what it had me do was save a notepad document as a registry key, then I think it replaced something in the registry with that not exactly sure though the funny thing is it no longer says that windows isn't genuine and it appears to run fine other than not being able to use windows updates which has been a problem going on since before I did that other fix. I can't find the link anymore, but I'll look around for it I think I still have the notepad document he had me save as a registry key as well if that would help

  • You can post the link...

    either

    1) request  validation of your logon by asking in this thread... http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/reportabug/thread/812eb24a-ecbd-46e8-936b-8ae40da72ec3

    or

    2) break the link - the usual method is to copy the link to Notepad, then change the 'http' at the front to 'hxxp' so that the forum software doesn't recognise it as a link, and then post the result.
