32 bit VB6 application on 64 bit Windows 7 RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I have a 32bit VB6 program that is dependant on a range of dll and ocx files. When I install the program, the dlls and ocxs are installed into the syswow64 folder and appear to be registered correctly. When the program is run as Administrator and in XP mode, it seems to work OK but intermittently errors saying faulting module is c:\windows\system32\filename.ocx/dll. Specific files are MFC40.dll, MSVBVM60.dll and HCButton2.ocx. All these files are registered in the wow64 folder and not the system32 folder. Most (but not all) of the errors appear to be occurring when the application sends print jobs. It seems that the re-director fails to correctly point to the right location for these files. Am I able to copy all these files into the system32 folder and register them there, or should I be looking at why the re-director is not working consistently?
