Linking one domain to another domain RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a Windows Server 2012 server which i have configured to be a Domain controller called AviDC1

I have an existing domain controller called ExistingDC1 which already has a DNS, DHCP set up and is working with around 500 PCs

In ExistingDC1 there is a hyperV environment and i have made the AviDC1 domain controller within that HyperV Environment so it has a IP address assigned to it and will be using the ExistingDC1 DHCP

I need help with the DNS.

So I can ping ExistingDC1 ip address but im not able to ping the hostname.

How do i configure the DNS to resolve the name. Will i need configure the DNS settings on both Domain controllers?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your question.

Microsoft does not recommend installing Hyper-v on a DC.

But if you really want to do this:

    • assign a static IP to the DC AviDC1.
    • check if there is a A record of AviDC1 on DNS.

    Best regards,

    Travis

  • Hi A Singh 8,

Is ExistingDC1 a hyper-v host and DC at the same time. It is?

1 - You need to set up a fixed IP address on AviDC1

2 - Set up ExistingDC1 as primary (or second) DNS server on AviDC1

After that, make a resolution name test.
