Trying to do Machine learning on 2017 SQL Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are doing machine learning on a sql server 2017 instance.

We have to re-install sql server 2017 each time after we receive this error:

The exact error I am getting is:

SQL Server was unable to communicate with the LaunchPad service. Please verify the configuration of the service.

Does anyone know if this is a major bug in SQL server 2017?

We've tried to restart the Launch Pad service, but it fails each time with this:

The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log for more details.

    The weird thing is this:

We re-install with the proper install for SQL server and add in the Machine learning items. Everything appears to work until we restore a large database (30 gb) to our database. Then this error comes up and we have to re-install SQL server.

    Please assist with any ideas.

One thing we are going to do: is try to install sql server 2016 to see if that helps.

Are we maybe missing a service pack?  We updated to the latest SQL server 2017 cumulative updates (14) and that did not work.
