DPM 2012 R2 - perimeter/untrusted backup with separate server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey guys,

I couldn't get specified informations about that within technet library and my loved DPM 2012 SP1 Book (Packtpub) so I'm asking you.

I'm planning new protection groups and backups with an existing DPM server.
The Hyper-V hosts with the VMs to backup reside in an untrusted network aka perimeter network.
All Hyper-V Hosts are workgroup based and not managed due a domain.

Can I use the existing DPM or should I setup a separate DPM Server because of unkown securtiy considerations I don't know yet?

Technically I can reuse existing DPM and get it running with certificates. Isn't it?

I wan't to keep the amount of DPM as small as I can.

greetings from here to there. ;)

  • Hi Enrico,

there is no reason why you can't use your existing setup. As long as the DPM server can communicate with the agent on the protected Hyper-V host, there is no need for an extra server in the perimeter network.

  • thank you Chaib.
After researching a while, it seems pretty common to do so. :)
