System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager Update Rollup 1 failed to install RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have the error described in this thread:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/b53b82b1-639b-4561-9ed2-f9749abd84f8/dpm-2012-r2-an-unexpected-error-occurred-while-the-job-was-running-id-104-details-the-parameter?forum=dpmfilebackup

This caused me to look in the update history to see if the update had automatically been installed but the history stated that the rollup failed to install on 30th Jan 2014.

So I'm trying to install the update manually. Quick question, one ends up with four executables:

"Detectoid for System Center 2012 R2 - DPM Central Console Server-all-dpmcentralconsoleserver-kb2904687_a62a72e0c0dc1573def4475b021924f1efad9777.exe"
"Detectoid for System Center 2012 R2 - Data Protection Manager Server-all-dataprotectionmanager2012r2-kb2904687_ac11247942c9f1a5136258f6700bd9395fee0fb3.exe"
"Detectoid for System Center 2012 R2 - Data Protection Manager UI-all-dpmmanagementshell-kb2904687_3d9efa9ff9ea4b48ffe5348037a4e5f86ae74463.exe"
"Detectoid for System Center 2012 R2 - Data Protection Manager UI-all-dpmmanagementshell-kb2904687_6ebfd6596f11a7139c447427d2b194e51fa16022.exe"

Do you run them all or just one of them? The instructions didn't seem very clear.

    Thanks, Rob.

  • Later - there is one large EXE which runs and installs. The three smaller executes don't run and report various errors like "Installation failed with return code 1642" so I'm guess I'm answering my own question.

But next question - the instructions instruct you to update the agent. Except the update option is greyed out, i.e. it thinks the agent is up to date. I'll try a manual install.

Method 1: Update the protection agents from the Data Protection Manager Administrator Console
    1. Open the Data Protection Manager Administrator Console.
    2. Click the Management tab, and then click the Agents tab.
    3. In the Protected Computer list, select a computer, and then click Update on the Action pane.
    4. Click Yes, and then click Update Agents.

Note You may have to restart the computer after you install the agent upgrades.

Method 2:Update the protection agents on the protected computers
    1. Obtain the update protection agent package from the following directory on the System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager server:

The installation packages are as follows:

        • For x64-based updates: amd64\1033\DPMAgentInstaller_kb2904687_AMD64.exe
      • Run the appropriate DPMAgentInstaller.exe package on each protected computer, based on the architecture of the agent.
      • Open the Data Protection Manager Administrator Console on the System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager server.
    2. Click the Management tab, and then click the Agents tab. Select the protected computers, update the information, and then verify that the agent version number is 4.2.1217.0
