We have a issue with an DPM 2019 with Legacy Storage. We have a protection job left and if we shorten the Retention range policy does it affect all the history? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, We have a issue with an DPM 2019 with Legacy Storage, and we would like to recreate the DPM-disk to MBS. We have one protection job left with 2 month retation. So if we change the retetion to some days and stop the protection will it affect all history/recovery points sp we dont need to wait 2 month?

  • Hi,

A retention range is the duration of time for which the data should be available for recovery. DPM retains recovery points for the duration specified in the retention range. Any day that the replica is not consistent does not count toward the retention range. When DPM protection is stopped temporarily because the replica is inconsistent, DPM does not delete expired recovery points until protection resumes.

If the retention period expires, all older Files an Recovery points will be deleted.

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • Thanks,

This if for legacy DPM storage (Upgraded DPM 2019)
But If you set the retention period to shorter than is was before (Like 4days) and it have been 2 Month. Will the the new
retention period expires after 4 days for all data?

  • Once the retention period is reached "4 days" then the Recovery point is deleted.
All the ones that are more recent then "4 days" are kept and new ones are created in parallel.

  • So you say that the "2 Month" retention period that the Protection Group had will remain 2 month and the new "4 days" policy/settings will only affect after the date you change the configuration?

Changing retention range has an immediate effect on all recovery points within a protection group.
If you have reduced the retention period, DPM will run a housekeeping job nightly to prune expired recovery points.
