Windows update never finds any updates available RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently installed windows server 2008 R2 SP1 on a new machine. When i run windows update and click check for updates it returns the "There are no updates available for your computer" almost instantly without actually checking.

    How can i fix this?

  • Thanks for all the suggestions guys,

    Eventually fixed the problem by re-downloading and burning installation media, reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling windows (tried without reformatting and had the same issue)

  • Hello,

    which account do you use, if not the administrator check the windows update settings that also other users are allowed to run windows update.

    Is the installed version already activated and genuine?

  • Are you a local admin?

    Please use a local admin account and check again.

    Try to reset Windows Update Components and check again.

    So i read the update log and I keep getting the following error:

    Misc FATAL: Assertion failed! Expression="NULL != m_hSqmSession" (wusqm.h!CWUSqmSession::EndSession: 344)

    Searching google only found one topic and that was to do with an expired beta version.

    Any ideas?

  • yep, try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958046

    this will give you a fresh WU content folder structure & db, it looks like your datastore is bad.
    this is a common technique to use when WU won't co-operate.
    (it doesn't remove any installed updates or patches, so it's very safe)
