Project Online : not allowed to entered decimal predecessor RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Some project managers has started to use Project online and Project Pro 2016 instead of Project 2013 standard edition.

In some planning made before using Project online (so mpp file made in Project 2013) we can setup predecessor with decimal values (e.g. 4FS+17.2 wks, 4FS+4,5 mons ...)

Now, using planning made using Project online we can't setup predecessor with decimal values.

I imagine there's an option in the planning where I can decide if I allow decimal or not but I can't find it :-(

    Any idea?

  • I can confirm indeed that entering a decimal in MS Project on a project published on Project Online is not possible. I also get an error. But if you double click on the link arrow in the Gantt Chart, you can then enter a decimal.

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi Patrick,

Can you be more precise? Are you talking about editing project in Project Online (web access) or in MS Project Pro 2016? Itried with both and I could enter decimal. I think you have to check with the comma and point for the separator. For example my laptop has the comma as separator so I have to use the comma in MS Project, but my PWA instance require using the point.

    PWA:

    MS Project:

  • Hi Guillaume,

    It's via Ms Project Pro

I have the same issue when I create a new blank planning

  • My recommandation was to test different separators: comma, point.. Did you try? It is working perfectly for me.

    Hope this helps,

  • I'm French like you (I guess) so I tried both.

Perhaps I could share with you a blank planning to see if in your side you have the same issue than me

  • After saving the planning in a file, I can setup decimal predecessor :-(

So my problem appear only when it's a planning on the server

    Could it be a bug?

  • You're right, this is working like this...it's really weird.

I'm going to open a fault to Microsoft because I believe it's a bug.

Many thanks for the tip Guilaume!
