Outlook not responding ??

    Question

  • Hi there

    Having issues with Outlook 2016.  Recently it has been unable to proceed with sending and now the program just stops and says "not responding" on the upper left corner.   It appears that there is a hang up with the send/receive as it take an awful long time to complete its task.  I usually end up exiting out of the program or restarting only to have outlook go through the "not responding" issue.  

    Any suggestions?

    Please make sure you have installed the latest updates for Outlook 2016. Also try to restart Outlook 2016 in safe mode: Press Win+R to open Run in Windows, type Outlook /safe, press Enter.

    If there is no issue when send/receive in safe mode, the issue may be related to some third-party add-ins. Please go to File > Options > Add-ins, select Manage COM Add-ins, click GO. Uncheck to disable all add-ins.

  • Outlook may not respond and stop working due to many reasons:

    • Corrupt PST file
    • Running Background Applications
    • Performing extensive operation like moving thousands of messages to other folder and not responding to actions.

    These errors could be solved by following steps

    • Run Outlook in Safe mode through Outlook/safe command or outlook.exe/safe if using windows 10
    • Repair MS Office Programs through Control Panel.
    • Disable programs conflicting with Outlook
    • Update Windows and Outlook by installing new updates.
