How can you control when a document version is updated RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a document library with several metata data columns.  I have major versioning turned on.  Is there a way to control when a new version is created.  I only want a new version if the actual document is modifed and saved.  I don't want to new version if any of the metadata columns are changed.

Is there a way to control that? Note, I'm not a VS developer so it would have to be either through the SP interface, or an XML change.

    Thanks in advance...

  • Any change to the document or its metadata will automatically trigger a new version.  The only way to prevent that is to make the change to the metadata using the SystemUpdate method instead of the Update method.  There is no way to do it through the interface or declaratively in XML.
