Multiple Volumes on VHD - OS Volume low on space RRS feed

  • Question

  • Host computer is Windows 10 Professional. Virtualized an older server.

Used Disk2vhd to create a volume containing C: and D: drives. Physical HDD was 1 TB with two partitions. New VHD mounts and works properly, however, the C: (120GB) volume is low on space while the D: volume is only using about 200 GB of the remaining space. I need to increase the size of the C: volume. Physical HDD on the host has plenty of empty space.

Attempted to use partition resizer tool by AOMEI. Shrank the D: partition, moved it to end of volume, resized C: volume, resized D: volume to again fill empty capacity. Everything works, but in growing the C: partition from 120 GB to 160 GB, the VHD size increased from ~250GB to ~475 GB. This seems excessive. I restored original VHD because backups would be problematic.

    Suggestions?
