KB3159706 Cannot be downloaded on broke WSUS Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been searching high and low for the link to manually download KB3159706. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3159706

From what I understand, there only two options are Windows Update OR WSUS. As such Windows Update is broken on the WSUS server, therefore I cannot download KB3159706.

Does anyone have this patch handy or know how I can manually download it from Microsoft?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Better off not installing it, even though everyone needs it to deploy 1607.

I have followed every step in the KB and it still breaks WSUS on my server. Microsoft is no help. I'm not sure how I'm going to get 1607 to my organization, the boss is going to love that.

  • Thanks Jon for the reply. I was able to get to 1602 at another client. I may go the premier support route as this is pretty important to get working.

    Hi jon.larson,

To deploy 1607, we must install KB3095113 and KB3159706 on the WSUS server, and they need to be installed before syncing the upgrade.

After installing KB3159706, we need to do manual steps to finish the installation. And as far as I know, there might be some issue for KB3159706 when using external WSUS database, while WSUS with WID works well with KB3159706.

If your WSUS using external database and having issues with KB3159706, I would recommend you open a case with MS:

Be patient, you will make everything work :)

Can I open a case without paying? If it's a bug, it's nothing in my environment that's broken. I really do want to make this work.

Sorry, my rage took over. It sounds like the patch is working if you are using WID for the WSUS db, but if you're using external SQL like me, then it doesn't work. Good luck!

As far as I know, if after troubleshooting, it is examined to be a bug, then, you will get a refund.
