USMT to migration point back to PC RRS feed

  • Question

  • I’m trying to use USMT on a windows 10 pc to the same PC. Ideally Id like to keep the format and partition step as normal which is why I’m trying to use the SCCM migration point to store the files.

I have put in the first step- request state store followed by - capture user state

Then at the end of the TS Release user state store – restore user state

currently using 2012r2 with USMT 5.0

is there any other options I need to change in order to do the above

  • What version of Windows 10 and what ADK version?

ConfigMgr 2012 (any and all versions) do not support Windows 10 1607.

Also for Win 10 1607, you need to use the Win 10 1607 ADK and the USMT version in this ADK. And of course ConfigMgr 2012 does not support his version of the ADK either.

Ultimately, you really need to step up to ConfigMgr Current Branch (CB).

  • The plan is to move to CB in this next 3 months I'm just testing USMT at this stage.

Using 1511 media with ADK 10.026624

Mostly looking to test the logic and TS at this stage , it wont be going near production until we are on CB.

    2012 R2 SP1

  • Then what you've described is sufficient. Are you having an issue or just verifying what you are doing?

  • Bit of both , it doesn't seem to capture the user profile or any data however it does create folder in my USMT store.

I'm not sure if the settings I have select are correct to capture to a migration point, so I can still have a format / partition drive step

  • You'll have to review the logs then. Start with smsts.log and then the USMT logs.

  • Hi,

What’s your task sequence like? Both capture process and restore process need the step “request state store” and “release the state store”.

    Best Regards,

    Ray
