Does "Device Encryption" happen seamlessly and not slow down the phone? RRS feed

  • Question

  • After owning a Microsoft Lumia 640 for several years I decided to turn on Device Encryption, including for the SD card, but I see no evidence that anything has changed. I was expecting some sort of encryption process to start, like the old Android method that took an hour.

Is it normal for encryption to look like nothing really happened, or does it kick in later somehow? I'm hoping the lack of future support for Win10 Mobile isn't a factor.

  • Kindly go through the following Microsoft article:

Unfortunately Windows Mobile is a dead issue and Microsoft is not thinking on it presently.

  • Good article though it says nothing about speed impacts. I haven't seen anything obvious so I assume encryption "just works."

I intend to keep my 640 until it stops being functional for what I need in a tablet (have Android phone also, but use an overlay WinPhone menu because I find it better than the round Android icons).
