WMI Query Full Disk Encryption Status RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is there a WMI class to query the disk encryption status? The "Win32_EncryptableVolume" WMI class only returns BitLocker status. Im looking for something that could also query the status of 3rd party full disk encryption (e.g. PGP). Obviously, i wouldn't know whether or which disk encryption solution was used, hence the point of this query.

  • There is no built-in way to determine encryption status of 3rd-party encryptors. Only bitlocker.

  • Thanks Ronald,

Are you aware of any other solutions to identify remotely whether a disk is encrypted?

  • As there are dozens if not hundreds of encryption products, there is no possible way to do that, sorry.

  • Hi JoeOS,

Yes, built-in WMI command only could query the BitLocker encryption status as Ronald said.

And to enable remote connections, remote WMI traffic must be allowed.

If you want to detect if the disk is encrypted by third-party technology, seek if there is corresponding third-party utility available.
