Missing Updates for Office 2010 SP2

  • I asked this question in the Microsoft Community forums, but so far, no responses there:

    Office Pro Plus 2010 sp2 32-bit on Windows 7 Pro sp1 x64

I happened to run Belarc Advisor and was surprised to see that it listed 16 security updates as missing.  Each of the updates is for Office 2010 SP2 or one of its components.  See the list below.

According to "Installed Updates," Service Pack 2 for Office 2010 was installed on Nov 9 2017.  Looking at Word, the version shown is 14.0.7190.5000.   As near as I can tell, that's consistent with sp2 being installed.  (Programs and Features shows version 14.0.7015.1000 installed 4/12/17)

Windows Update is configured to install updates for "Windows and other products," but according to "Installed Updates," the last update to Office 2010 seems to have been on Nov 9, 2017.

Without knowing more, I'm a bit reluctant to just download and install the 16 updates manually.  For one thing, as I was attempting to research this issue, I found out that at least one of the 16 updates is problematic:  After KB4461614 is installed, "Microsoft Access 2010 and Excel 2010 stop working" and you have to install KB4462157 to fix things.  More importantly, I'd like to get Windows Update back to installing security patches for Office 2010, at least until end of support in Oct 2020.

Any advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

These are the updates that Belarc shows as missing:

  • Hi LemP,

Generally, we use Microsoft Update to install Office updates (MSI version) through Windows.

If you enable Office update for Office 2010 in Windows Update, please go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update > Select updates to install, you can find available updates for Office 2010 here. Please confirm if the available Office 2010 updates are displayed here.

After installing all latest Office 2010 updates, the versions of my Office 2010 applications (Word/ PowerPoint/ Excel) are:

We can get the update information and update packages form the page Latest updates for versions of Office that use Windows Installer (MSI).

If you have anything unclear or any updates, feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

As I wrote in my question, "Windows Update is configured to install updates for "Windows and other products," which means that the box under "Microsoft Update" in Windows Update Settings was already checked.

Despite that setting, there are no Office 2010 updates displayed ... which is why I asked the question in the first place.

  • More information:

I reset Windows Update components ( (which naturally deleted my Windows Update history), but WU still wouldn't offer the missing updates.

I then decided to manually download and install each of the updates that Belarc listed as missing.  Surprisingly, each one of these installers reported that the update was already installed.  Whatever these individual updaters look at to determine whether an update is installed must be the same things that WU looks at.  It isn't surprising, then, that WU won't offer updates that it thinks are already installed.

However, when I compare the file info in the various KB articles to the files on my system, I do not have the updated files.  And my versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are still at 14.0.7100.5000.

Any suggestions on how to force the updates?

Should I completely uninstall and reinstall Office 2010?
