Search inside the contents in Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I copied a bunch of text files into my C:\ drive and typed the word which I want to find in these logs. But search didn't return any content though files has the word I am looking for. I don't want to wait till Windows Desktop search indexes the text files(in fact I don't like WDS). Is there any way around?

  • If you want fast results, you might want to just add the folder those files are in to your index.  If they're just text files, indexing should complete quickly, and you'll still have the benefit of instant results.

If you don't mind waiting for a full slow search every time you search (basically re-creating the index every single time), you can accomplish this with these options:

1 - Type "folders" into the Start menu, and select "change search options for files and folders" from the list.

2 - Choose "Always search file names and contents (this might take several minutes)"

  • Thanks for your reply shawn. Is there any way in windows 7 to disable the WDS search and enable old native search? That helps in my requirement.

  • The option above to always search file contents will essentially accomplish what you wish.  While you are able to disable Windows Search entirely from the Programs and Features control panel, this won't achieve your desired outcome because it will disable all searching entirely and even remove the search boxes from the system.

  • Then I am disappointed. Thanks for sharing the facts. I hope MS will improve upon this soon.
