Moving SharePoint 2007 SQL 2005 Database to SP2010 SQL 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello..

I took a backup of SQL 2005 DB and trying to Restore it to SQL 2008 on SP2010. Error:

    Sequence [Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPContentDatabaseSequence] cannot upgrade
an object [SPContentDatabase Name=WSS_Content_TEST] whose build version [12.0.0
.6219] is too old. Upgrade requires [12.0.0.6421] or higher.

Is there anyway I add the Content DB to SP2010???

    Any Advice will be great..

    Thanks

    DPS

  • Hello DPS,

You cannot add MOSS 2007 or WSS 2007 database directly to SP2010, you need to execute PowerShell command to upgrade it to SP2010 version and then attach. Please see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263299.aspx#AddDB which details the steps for attaching database to 2010

    Hope this helps!

  • From the error it looks like, the sql server 2005 db is part of a farm which is running on MOSS 2007 + SP1.

You will need to install MOSS 2007 SP2 on your currrent farm before you can do the upgrade. Please review the upgrade best practices here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc261992.aspx

    Hope this helps.
