Remove No Internet Access exclamation Windows 10 and Server 2016

    Question

  • We have always been able to remove the No Internet Access exclamation in Windows 7 and Server 2012 R2 with the GPO Computer Configuration>Policies>Administrative Templates>Network>Network Connections>Do not show the "local access only" network icon.  This policy does not seem to work in Windows 10/Server 2016, is there anyway to accomplish this in Windows 10/Server 2016?

  • Hi,
    First of all, please verify that GPO is applied successfully by running gpresult /h command.
    If the GPO is not applied, please follow the article as below to troubleshoot it:
    10 Common Problems Causing Group Policy To Not Apply
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/22457.10-common-problems-causing-group-policy-to-not-apply.aspx
    If the GPO is applied, you could check whether the following registry is set up correctly on Windows 10/Server 2016:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Network Connections
    NC_DoNotShowLocalOnlyIcon DWORD
    0 = Enable
    1 = Disable
    Alternatively, you could directly use group policy preference to deploy this registry: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753092(v=ws.11).aspx
    Best regards,
    Wendy

  • The GPO is being applied and the registry key is showing up with a 1

    It just doesn't seem to work in Windows 10 and Server 2016.  Can anyone verify this or is it just not working for me.

  • Yes, of course, they have all been rebooted several times with all patches installed.  I believe that it just doesn't work with 2016 and Windows 10 but nobody has confirmed this.  Have you actually verified this?

  • Hi,

    Sorry for delay response due to test in the lab. After testing, the same behavior is produced, In this case, I would suggest you open up a case with Microsoft Technical Support to see if they could get more information from product team regarding this behavior: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/?ws=support

    And we will also report this to related team, and keep eyes on this problem. Your kind understanding is appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Wendy

    I've been through all of these settings, none of them fixes the problem.
