Azure - Iaas for Test LAB setup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I am currently planning to set up a LAB for evaluating few applications with database and I have already finished the free subscription. I have few questions before I sign up for a PAYG in windows Azure. Apologise if these questions are sounding stupid as I am new to Azure and public cloud

    - Will I be charged for compute if I switch off all my VM's when I am not using LAB ?

    - Will I be charged for Storage as my vhd's will be still in public cloud even when VM's are switched off ?

    - If I will be charged for storage, Is it going to be only for the bits in use or for the enter size of VHD's that you create ?

    - Can I create nested VM's using hyper-v role of server 2012 in Azure ?

  • 1) no, only for consumed storage

    2) yes

    3) the bits you are using

    4) not supported. You are only getting the VM in Azure with no access to a Hypervisor. Also, running Hyper-V within a VM on Hyper-V is not supported - nor working.
