Unable to install client on the Primary Site Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

I recently upgraded our Primary Site server to SP2 & CU2.

The Site version is now at 8239 and my client are at version 5.00.8239.1301.
I noticed that the agent wasn't installed on our primary site server, so I performed a client push but the installation fails.

The installer fails with the following message:
MSI: An older version of the ConfigMgr Management Point is installed. Please upgrade the Management Point before attempting to upgrade the client.

This is however incorrect as when I browse to the MPList URL, it clearly shows : <Version>8239</Version>

Does anybody have an idea where the ccmsetup.exe gets the idea that the MP is not up to date?

When running the ccmsetup, I see some of the following messages:
Checking compatibility of site version '5.00.8239.1301', expect newer than '5.00.8200.1000'
Site version '5.00.8239.1301' is compatible. Client deployment will continue.
Running query 'SELECT * FROM CCM_Service_HostedApplication WHERE Type="Server"'
    Detect sAppName 'ConfigMgr_MP'
CCM hosted server application is detected
    Installing version 5.00.8239.1000 of the client with product code {343D4507-997F-4553-9F86-2BB81F19A05E}

I've also checked the above mentioned WMI query and there I also see what I expect:

    Get-WmiObject -Namespace "Root\CCM\Policy\Machine" -Class "CCM_Service_HostedApplication" -Filter 'Type="Server"'

    Name             : ConfigMgr_MP
    Type             : Server
    Version          : 5.00.8239.1301

This indicates to me that everything should be fine.

Can anybody shed some light on this strange issue?

  • Do the MPSetup.log and mpMSI.log also indicate a successful (Re-)Installation of the MP?
