Why does my laptop cancel copying processes by itself without notice? RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I'm backing up my phone data to my laptop, including music, images, and apks.

The laptop is an HP 2000-240CA Notebook.

So I'm right now down to copying my music, and whenever I try to copy a certain ammount of files from my sd card to my HDD, it suddenly stops copying and the ''copying satus box'' just disappears, completely canceling the whole copying process, without notice or dialogue box... NOTHING.

ALSO, whenever there's a duplicate, it asks me if I want to replace or skip, when I choose ''Skip this file'' and check the ''Apply to all future files'' box, it does the same thing, it stops. Even if I only choose ''Skip this file'' without checking the box, it will still cancel the process.

This has been getting me VERY angry the past 4 days. Any pointers? Anyone?

  • Hi,

You can test in clean boot mode to see if this issue persists.

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Also, if you are using software tool for your phone to migrate your files, please update or reinstall it for a test.

Is there enough free space on both the phone and the pc?

What does it say in event viewer?  Upload it and we can take a look

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:

    Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
    Expand Custom Views
    Click Administrative Events
    Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file here (if you can) to skydrive or a file sharing service
