Outlook Attachments Not Searching - Indexing Broken by Microsoft Update RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good afternoon,

Currently I am having some issues within my organization with attachments no longer searching after recent Microsoft Updates were applied. I found an update that seems to have corrected the issues on some PCs, KB4022168, however after recent updates were automatically applied this update will not install on other PCs in the organization as it says it is no longer applicable. My suspicion is that it has been superseded by a newer update; however, I can not find anything to confirm that, nor does the newer update (if it was superseded) seem to fix the indexing/search issue within Outlook. The user is using Outlook 2010 32-Bit with Windows 7 Enterprise 64-Bit. The body, subject, from, and to lines of the mail message will search properly but the attachments, which are generally Excel attachments, will not. This worked prior to the June 27th update

    Things we have tried:

    • Creating a new Outlook profile
    • Rebuilding the Index completely
    • Deleting the .OST files under the original Outlook profile and letting them rebuild
    • Repairing Outlook
    • Installing KB4022168 (it wouldn't install - says not applicable)

Any assistance with what update may have superseded KB4022168 or anything else to try would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

By 'Outlook attachments not searching', do you mean you cannot search for emails with the 'Has Attachments' criteria or you cannot search for text contained in the attachments?

We haven't received any report regarding the attachments searching issue recently. Based on my researching, the KB4022168 update has been replaced by the KB4034664 update. I'd recommend you install all available updates for your Office program and then see whether this issue continues.

Please let us know the result.

    Regards,

    Steve Fan

  • I have the same issue.  Was this answered with something that worked?
