Host Integration Server 2010 and DB2 for z/OS V10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a web solution which communicate with DB2 for z/OS through HIS 2010. Our operation service provider wish to upgrade to version 10 of DB2 for z/OS, but after searching the internet we’re not sure if HIS 2010 supports this, or if it will support it in the future.

This is what we have found:

    • This planning document for HIS doesn’t mention version 10: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg163662.aspx
    • This planning document for SQL Server mention OLE DB Provider for DB2 Version 4.0, and that it supports version 10 of DB2 for z/OS. It also says that the Data Provider is based on HIS 2010: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh873012.aspx
    • In the following tread, from December 2012, Stephen Jackson mention that HIS 2010 may not have full support for DB2 for z/OS V10: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/biztalkhis/thread/5139c8f3-d467-4f3a-b4d4-9d31904e3f6d

Our question is, do HIS 2010 support DB2 for z/OS V10? If not, will there be a update for HIS 2010 to add this support?

If HIS 2010 just partially support DB2 for z/OS V10, do you have list of what’s supported and what’s not?

  • The Data Providers in HIS 2010 support DB2 for z/OS V10. We have it in our labs and run tests against it. With HIS 2010, we are supporting customer with issues they encounter with DB2 for z/OS V10 (sans "new features in V10"). In these scenarios if you have a problem, you can open a support case with Microsoft Support. If the problem is related to a new feature in V10, then we may not be able to provide a fix or workaround.

If you will be using HIS 2010, I would suggest that you apply HIS 2010 CU6 to get to the latest updates for the product:

2752426 Cumulative update package 6 for Host Integration Server 2010
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2752426/EN-US

The upcoming HIS 2013 release will have much more complete support for DB2 for z/OS V10. This is scheduled to be released in H1 of this year. A Beta version is available for use at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35553 if you want to have a look at the upcoming release.

    Thanks...

  • Hi,

As a customer of HIS 2010, I confirm that HIS 2010 works with DB2 V10 in Compatibility and Full Function Mode. It is possible that new functions of DB2 V10 are not implemented yet in HIS 2010 (for example some XML DB2 V10 functionalities.

As Stephen has already mentioned, it would be great if you could install CU6 on top of HIS 2010.

    Best Regards,
