Single user can't add new profile on ANY Outlook client RRS feed

  • Question

  • Having a problem when trying to setup an existing user mailbox profile on any Outlook client. When we try to add the user, we get the message:

Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Network problems are preventing connection to Microsoft Exchange.

Similar messages are received when trying to create the mailbox from outside the network perimeter.

This issue only happens for this single user however. All other users can connect and create profiles from the same computer/Outlook client.

Additionally, any profiles already created still work successfully. OWA and activesync are also functioning properly.

MAPI has been disabled, then reenabled for this user with the same result

  • Hi,

    Sorry for delay.

Does it works after you repair mailbox or move it to other database?

Based on your description, I notice that this problematic mailbox works if switch to other PC account. Please create a new PC profile with your problematic user (or new PC), then try to login Outlook for testing.

If this issue persists, please try to browser autodiscover URL in IE (enter the problematic user's credential), ensure it return 600 error.

Besides, please open RPC Client Access logs (default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Logging\RPC Client Access) for further troubleshooting.

    Best Regards,

  • Does free/busy work fine for the user? Can he see other people's free/busy and can they see his availability?

  • Hi,

To narrow down your issue, I want to confirm:
    1. Which Outlook client are you used, Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2016?
    2. How about manually configure profile with Outlook Anywhere?

If this issue persists, please try it and move this problematic mailbox to other mailbox database.

Also, try to repair mailbox by New-MailboxRepairRequest for testing.

  • This is any Outlook client.

Additionally, if I give full access rights to another mailbox, the other mailbox account can open it without any problems.

If a different user logs onto any Windows client, they can setup a profile for Outlook for the problematic mailbox, and can also logon without problems.
