Local account changed to Microsoft Account RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We have a user who has a local user account. He has rebooted his machine overnight and this morning his user account has changed from 'username' to an email address. This email address is his private email address but doesn't think he has ever used this for any reason on his local machine. This includes logging into windows live or any email.

Just wondered if there was any logical explanation for this?

If you use a local account, but open the Windows Store app, and choose to download an app, the Store will ask you if you want to convert your local account into a Microsoft Account (MSA)....

There are a few things about Win10 which "offer" the user the ability to convert from local into MSA and it's easily done without realising what the implications will truly be.....until it happens...then you find yourself in this very scenario...and users are not always %100 honest or not always %100 accurate with recall of IT events.... :D

  • there are probably logs/events recorded for the scenario, which would reveal who did what and when.

not sure which logs exactly but start with Application / Security / System

  • Hi,

You can also check the event log as below to see if there is any store app do this exchange, before AccountControl event is created.
