Yet another Windows Server 2008 Server Manager Roles/Features refresh fail with failed update and error 0x800B0100 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows Server 2008 can't load/refresh Roles/Features in Server Manager, and fails Internet Explorer 8 update (error 0x800B0100).

    Excerpt from CBS.log:
2009-09-15 11:12:19, Info                  CBS    Mark store corruption flag because of package: Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-8-Package-TopLevel~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~8.0.6001.18702. hr: 0x800b0100
I think that's the only relevant piece but I can certainly post more, of course.

  • Hi Tim,

It worked. I had to mess with NTFS permissions to replace those files; should I reset them, giving ownership to a system user or something?

Notes for anyone else solving the same problem with the same failure: After the Internet Explorer update installed, it was ready to install Service Pack 2 for Windows Server 2008 but Windows Update reported a failure installing it. I manually downloaded it and I was able to install it successfully from that download. Once that was installed, there was a small update waiting to be installed and Windows Update was able to install it, so it seems that it's totally fixed now.

    Thank you,

      Rick

  • Hi Rick,

You’d better return the permission back.

You may make your local administrators have the “Special permissions” permission and users the “Read & execute”, “List folder contents” and “Read permissions. If you are not clear how to return the permission back, you can check the permissions on another computer.
