Vista not booting, system restore also not working, error code 0x8007045D RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm using an Asus N50Vc with Vista Home Premium and an ExpressGate Splashtop OS (both came preloaded with the laptop, bought new).

I've had the laptop for just under a year now with no trouble. Today, I ran down the battery. When I next tried to boot it, I wasn't able to load Vista.

I see the loading bar with the green lines as usual, but after this, nothing. No login screen or anything, and Vista refuses to boot.

Startup Assistant can find no problem. All the tests it runs complete successfully.  The only message it gives at some point is

    "Root cause found:

Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem"

    but doesn't elaborate!

I tried using System Restore. This fails "because of an I/O device error. (0x8007045D)".

    Please help!
