Windows 8.1 Upgrade Won't Restart Brand New XPS 8700 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just received a Dell XPS 8700, Windows 8. I set it up, then updated Windows 8 and some other hardware drivers. After this, I upgraded to Windows 8.1, and now am getting the failed Restart when installing or updating. The power button works fine, as well as Shutdown.

  • Hi,

How about your problem now? Obviously, Windows encountered an upgrade problem. As we couldn't boot into system to colect installation logs, I thinke here are two method we can try:

    1. If you have Windows 8 installation CD, try to insert computer to repair this problem.

    2. Generally speaking, OEM manufacturer would set a factory drive to restore system. You can check and use this featrue to restore your system to Windows 8, then try to upgrade again.

Note: if you have any impormant file in system drive, you can try to use WINPE to recover your date.
