Cannot access root site collection. Other site collections ok. RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I try to access any site in the root site collection I get an 'unexpected error'. All other site collections are working fine. We had some problems with the SQL server running out of memory recently, but that was fixed and seems ok today. Cant see anything relevant in the server logs. Help appreciated!

  • Hello Stoo,

Please do below changes in web.config then you will get exact error.

    1. Open the Web.Config file of the IIS SharePoint WebSite
    2. Search for the CallStack and change it to CallStack="true"
    3. Search for the CustomError and change it to CustomError="Off"

  • Thanks for the response Jithendar. We reset the server and increased the logging level. Initially there was no change, then the root site collection became accessible again without any change being made. Currently we have all site collections operating except one. Not sure why, but we're checking the Verbose logs. If the error doesnt appear then we'll follow your suggestion later when there's less usage on the site.

Cant think what might make one site collection inaccessible but not the others.

  • It seems we had an infrastructure issue creating packet loss between the SharePoint and SQL servers. Hopefully it's resolved now.

  • Try to get the correlation ID of the error and go to Log file and look for this ID.

You can use a tool to do this :
