DPM encountered a retryable VSS error (ID 30112) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have five Virtual Servers being backup by 2008 R2 host, but one of those can not be backup up. I get the following error:

"The replica of Microsoft Hyper-V \Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot\*servername* on *hostname* is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check. You can recover data from existing recovery points, but new recovery points cannot be created until the replica is consistent.

For SharePoint farm, recovery points will continue getting created with the databases that are consistent. To backup inconsistent databases, run a consistency check on the farm. (ID 3106)"

"DPM encountered a retryable VSS error. (ID 30112 Details: VssError:The writer experienced a transient error.  If the backup process is retried,
    the error may not reoccur.

  • Please check eventvwr logs for errors on protected computer. The event logs will provide more details.

  • Hello,

The target server will probably have a little more information in the system and\or application event logs.
Look for VSS or volsnap errors.

Also try a manual consistency check, then go  back to the tartget server and type the following from a command prompt: vssadmin list writers

Do the writers come back into a stable or failed state?
