Patch is missing from MBSA report RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to fully patch the OS.

Powershell reports as installed, installed updates shows as installed. when i double click on kn exe it tells me that its already installed.

But when i run MBSA it shows as missing, and when i run windows updates it comes up as available?

Which one is reporting wrong information?

  • Hello,

The GUI and the powershell command should show the correct information.

It seems like that you are running Windows Server 2008 R2, and based on my research, MBSA do not support Windows Server 2008 R2.

As we can see in article https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff647642.aspx

This information applies to computers that run the following:

Servers running Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003, or Windows Server 2008
Developer workstations running Windows 2000 (all versions), Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, or Windows Server 2008
SQL Server 2000, including Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE)

  • check the details, this update was subject to a revision, and if you installed the original release, installing the revised release was recommended: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/security-updates/SecurityBulletins/2014/ms14-066#revisions

Also note the issues and the companion update:

Don [doesn't work for MSFT, and they're probably glad about that ;]

  • I tried running windows update and installed KB2992611. Then created a template.

When created a VM from that template KB2992611 shows as missing from MBSA.

    Please help to understand this....

    Thanks,

  • Hello,

You may try to intall KB2992611 on the VM, if you receive message said that the KB is already installed, then this means the MBSA report is not correct.

And MBSA do not support Windows Server 2008 R2, are you running Windows 2008 R2?
