F12 debugger on IE 11 won't display source any more RRS feed

  • Question

  • Not sure what happened, but when I go into the F12 debugger now, I do not see any source code on the Console or Debugger tabs.  On the Debugger tab, I see a top pane for Watches (with nothing in it) and a bottom pane with Call stack/Breakpoints. That's it. The source pane used to be on the left side, but now it's gone...

How do I get back to being able to view source? Can I reset the debugger to defaults?

  • I got this fixed.

It turned out that the source pane on the left side of the Debugger tab had been slid all the way to the left so it was not visible. It was very difficult to see that it was slideable. Once I found that, I used the mouse pointer to slide it to the right to re-open the pane back it's normal width.

I'm not sure how it got collapsed to the left - it must have been something I did with my trackpad on my laptop when I wasn't using a mouse.

    DUH!!

  • Hi Stoonad,

According to your description, we could install an update to check if the dev tool could work.

    For 32 bit system: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=45134

    For 64 bit system: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=45154

If the issue still insists, we could remove IE and reinstall IE, then updating to IE11.

Also it could be related to your user profile. We could create a new account on the PC to check.

Hope it will be helpful to you

  • Thanks.

Both of those tell me "not applicable to this computer".

Is there a place in the registry or other location where window pane sizes/locations are stored?  It all worked fine until a few days ago.

I suppose I could re-install IE, but that's such a pain... I would only do that as a last resort - I lose all cookies, etc. and have to remember all my passwords!

    I will try another account.

  • It does show the source pane when logging in as another user (I suspected as much).

Any idea where the settings/config for the F12 debugger is stored? It remembers all my breakpoints, so they must be stored somewhere...

  • Thank you for having posted this several years ago. My source code 'disappeared' from my debugger just today, April 25, 2019. First time I ever ran into this problem. Though I have been using debugger for many years, I never knew the source display was in a pane that could be covered over. Not sure how I managed to cover it up, but am sure it would have been possible to have never figured out what happened without your explanation. Good to find a fix that actually helped me. That seems so rare. :-)
