Item number in Inbox

Question
-
Hi,
We use Outlook 2016. I notice some users always keep all emails in Inbox. They never organize their emails. Some of them can keep the items in the Inbox up to more than 13,000 emails.
I remember Outlook performance will be reduced if too many emails in Inbox in old version of Outlook. I wonder if there is still the limitation for the number of items in Inbox for Outlook 2016. What is the best practice for using Outlook? Please advise!
Thanks in advance!
Grace

Hi Grace,
For Outlook 2016, the limit is 100,000 items per folder and 500 folders total.
If you have folders that exceed the limit for the number of items in an Outlook data (.pst) file or an offline Outlook data (.ost) file, please move items from the larger folders to separate or smaller folders in the same mailbox or data file.
Besides, we should also pay attention to the size of your data file. It is recommended to keep it around 10G. When the size of OST or PST file is more than 10 GB, short pauses begin to occur on most hardware. To workaround this, we can archive our mailbox regularly. Please refer to following official articles:
Archive older items automatically
Hope this is helpful to you.
