FBA for site collection ... RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a SharePoint site created and configured with a managed path so that we can create site collections for multiple clients ..

    http://clients.contoso.com:222/client/clientname

We do not have a site collection at the root site (http://clients.contoso.com:222/) only at each sub client site collection. We are having problems publishing each website within UAG as an Other Web Application as we are not too sure how we can map the path to the sites..

We created an application with a Web Server setting of clients.contoso.com having a path of /client/clientname/, and a portal link of http://clients.contoso.com:222/client/clientname/;  however we are getting an error when clicking the portal link that I think is due to the FBA SSO mapping as the FBA login form is at the root of http://clients.contoso.com:222 in the _layouts folder ..

Is this possible to achieve this, or am I going to have to create a root site collection and use permisssions to hide links to each client sub site collection??

    Regards,

    Jules

  • I think it is very similar to our situation; however we publish our SharePoint extranet FBA sites as Other Web Applications in any case (one for each client - with unique Application Type for each client)..

My particular solution was simple; however it took trawling google and a Citrix query to get the answer; which was to correctly identify the URL Paths for the Web Application; for some reason UAG had entered some wierd path in here, so changed it and added another to cover the path I wanted as below:

    URL Rule 1: /.*

    URL Rule 2: /client/.*

The published web application is set as follows:

    Address Type: IP/Host

    Addresses: clients.contoso.com

    Path: /

    HTTP Port: 222

    Public host name: clients.contoso.com

    Application URL: http://clients.contoso.com/client/clientname

Our FBA SSO works to pass the UAG credentials through to SharePoint login form and we are cooking in gas .. hope this helps anyone else..
