Somestimes boot without GPO(?)

    Question

  • Hallo all!

I have a problem here at work. We got new office computers (HP 800ED Tower). They are all members of the same domain and same GPO's

Every 10th or 20th time they boot, and the user log in. They are meet by a Black "wallpaper" and The network drives are not connected. This was never an issue on our old computers.

Do anyone have any idea what this is? A friend told me it could be the network driver not loading fast enough. Can the order be changed? or a delay maybe?

  • GPO is ran asynchronously.

If you definitely need all GPO's applied on logon, check http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/gg486839.aspx

You might also want to check if you can optimize the currently applied GPO's to reduce the time it takes to apply them.

  • Hi Jimmi,

    >> They are meet by a Black "wallpaper" and The network drives are not connected.

As suggested by SenneVL, this can caused by Fast Logon Optimization feature. We can try to log on twice continuously to see if the policy settings can be applied successfully, or we can enable the following policy: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\ Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon

However, if the issue persists, we can run command gpresult/h gpreport.html to collect group policy result report to check how the policy settings are applied. Besides, for black wallpaper issue, what's our operating system? If the operating system is Windows 7, we can try to install the following hotfix to tackle the issue.

The "Desktop Wallpaper" Group Policy setting is not applied in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
