Can I use views in my Power query? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am an absolute beginner with Excel 2013 and I am trying out Power Query. When I create a new query and open up my database, it will only show tables. Is it possible to also use views in the same way as tables?

  • You should be able to get to the data by clicking on the "Table" hyperlink in the column named "Data"

  • To the best of my knowledge, we should be showing views for all the databases we support. Which database are you using?

  • Thank you for taking an interest in this. I am using an MS SQL Database 2008 R2. Looking a little more closely I can see that the Navigator DOES in fact show the views, but not all of them. The views that I am interested in are located last in the view list and Power Query only show a limited number from the top. Is there a way to show all or to do a reverse sort on name or something?

    Best regards,

  • Counting the views, I can see that Power Query shows 1742 rows with views, and I have about 2600 views in my database.

  • The navigator is paged; I believe it shows 10000 entries at a time, but there's a way to get to a second page.

  • OK? How do I get to the next page?

  • I can actually see my view if I click on 'Edit' and in the query editor filters on the view name. But there is no way I can choose it from there.... :(

  • Okay, I'm not sure how to navigate between pages in the navigator any more. But there's now a search box at the top. You should be able to type a partial view name there and the list should filter down to just the matching items. That's probably more useful than paging anyway :).

  • Hello,

I tried that, but since my view is not displayed in the original list, all I get is "... not found"
