The back up to tape job failed for the following reason: (ID 3311) RRS feed

  • Question

  • All of my backups to tapes are failing and I cannot resolve the issue.

Error: The back up to tape job failed for the following reason: (ID 3311)

    View Detailed Errors:

DPM could not find a valid recovery point on disk. (ID 30126)

I have performed the Recommend Action steps DPM provided, Create a recovery point by using express full backup (Short term disk protection), even did a Consistency check. Shows it was successful so I then perform Long Term Protection to tape, immediately fails.

I ran a drive cleaning job on both drives from the tape library, rescanned, and performed full inventory. Still nothing. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Application: DPM 2012 R2 RU10
    Server: Windows 2012 R2

  • Think there were multiple issues here on this one. I had multiple backup to tape schedules (2weeks, 1Month,etc.) apparently that bugged the DPM DB according to MS.

    Ran the following Query:

    select

sche.ScheduleId as 'SQL agent Schedule Job Name',

          sche.JobDefinitionId,

prot.FriendlyName as 'Protection Group', am.ServerName as 'Servername or NULL',

         case

when jobd.type = 'C9B259D2-6402-486D-8E36-C6C1ADAE0912' then 'Maintenance job that runs @ midnight'

                when jobd.Type = '84021B5E-B4DC-9B27-2B7E-3B99BB1225FF' then 'Volume/Share/System State Recovery Point'

         end

           as Operation

    from tbl_SCH_ScheduleDefinition sche

    left join dbo.tbl_JM_JobDefinition jobd

    on jobd.ProtectedGroupId = prot.ProtectedGroupId

    on sche.JobDefinitionId = jobd.JobDefinitionId

    left join dbo.tbl_AM_Server AM

    on AM.ServerId = jobd.serverid

    where sche.IsDeleted = '0' and jobd.ProtectedGroupId is not null

    order by prot.FriendlyName

Pasted the tables into Excel, located the monthly backup job IDs

Filtered the DB for those jobs, right clicked job>Start Job at Step

this started the backup to tapes.

We also had errors on the DFSR servers that had to be cleaned up.
