Password source when using PCNS? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

So there are a number of built-in MAs that work with PCNS (i cant find the technet link for this, but I think there is one).

From what I recall Password Sync was uni-directional, is that still the case in FIM R2?

Since PCNS is installed on domain controllers, can we safely assume that the originator of any password change can always and only be Active Directory? i.e. we can never have AD LDS, for example, as the source for a password sync?

    thanks,

    dw

  • Bi-directional password synchronization is not supported by FIM. Configuring bi-directional password synchronization can create a loop, which will consume server resources and have a potentially negative effect on both Active Directory and FIM.

    See: Here

FIM 2010 accepts two sources: AD and FIM Reset page (which is also AD ;) )

Of course if you have more than one AD MA connected, each of them could be a source.

Only way is that You could have that custom capture agent supply the password to FIM via the WMI API, though

    Keep trying
