SCOM 2012 Integration with Solarwinds RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Experts,

Currently we are using SCOM 2012 for Server, Application, Network, etc monitoring. Also, we are using Solarwinds Network Performance Monitor(NPM) for network monitoring and Network Configuration Manager(NCM) to perform configuration backup of network devices as SCOM 2012 does not have this capability.

We are planning to have single consolidated view in SCOM 2012.

Please let us know, how can we integrate Solarwinds NPM and NCM with SCOM 2012.

    Any help will be appreciated.

  • It depends. To be honest I never used it myself. If this MP is NOT based on OpsMgr Network Device class(es) - it should work on OpsMgr 2012. It seems like this MP queries a Solarwind product with a connector - this probably should work for 2012 as well.

  • Hi,

have you tried the 'free  Orion NPM Management Pack'?  http://www.solarwinds.com/products/network-management/product-integrations.aspx

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the link provided.

We have downloaded orion NPM Management pack and gone through the document. It say that the requirement is SCOM 2007. Will the same Management Pack is compatible with SCOM 2012?

  • Hi,

solarWinds PM here. Our SCOM MP 1.1.1 pack is not officially compatible with SCOM 2012. But some folks were able to use that successfully with SCOM 2012 (see this post: httP://thwack.solarwinds.com/message/163600#163600).

    thanks,

  • hi ,

can we just forward the alerts from Solarwinds version 11, to SCOM 2012 R2.

    swapna

Yes. You can setup some alert rule in SolarWinds to capture the alerts and write to Windows Event Log, then setup a custom NT alert rule in SCOM to generate the alert for you. By default, the SolarWinds "Send to Windows Event Log' function will write to the Application Event Log with the source of "SolarWinds.BusinessLayerAction Host" (Sorry I did not recall the exact source name right now) with the Event ID of 3003. If you want to use another Event Source and Event ID, you can write a powershell script to write to the Windows Event Log for you and change the alert trigger action to call your custom powershell script instead of using the "Send to Windows Event Log" function. Note however that SCOM will NOT be able to auto resolve this kind of SolarWinds alert for you.
