DPM Agent Unavailable Error ID: 300/ The rpc server is unavailable (0x800706BA) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Recently i saw that one of my agents started failing. I'm currently using DPM v 1809 with Win Server 2019 Datacenter as OS.

    The agent version is 10.19.58.0.

The error looks something like this:

    What i tried:

    1.  Ping (works)

    2. Checked inbound rules for DPM on that specific server (they are there)

    3. Turned firewall off.

    4. Restart for both servers.

    Mentions:

The backup was working up until now and there is no IPsec configured.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • Hello Bogdan,

What is the agent status under the Management pane? Agent version 10.19.58.0 indicates that you are using DPM 2019, what is the operating system version of the protected server?

I would suggest you to check the DPM log on the DPM server and on the protected server.

    DPM server log:

    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center\DPM\DPM\Temp\MSDPMCurr.errlog

    Protected Server log:

    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\Temp\DPMRACurr.errlog

You could also try the following:

    • Reinstalling the DPM agent.
    • Re-run the SetDpmServer.exe -dpmServerName <DPMServerName> command on the protected server.

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • Please check that the DNS records exist and are up-to-date for the protected server, both forward and reverse DNS.

Make sure your DPM server can resolve the DNS & IP address of the protected server, try with:

    nslookup <Name of Protected Server>.domain.local

nslookup <IP Address of Protected Server>

  • Hello Leon,

Seems that was the problem. The was no A record for the FQDN.

Created and was able to attach the agent with no problems.

Now the Agent Status is OK.

    Thank you very much !
