Unable to migrate running workflows status and tasks from SP-2010 to O365 through sharegate RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Team

Would like to migrate running workflows to O365 SPO sites from sp-2010,hence as sharegate informed that it will not migrate tasks, status & history.

Any other approaches a part from below

    **********************************

1.Need to wait/ask for the workflows to be completed before migration and no new workflow is started before finishing the migration. This will make sure that there are no pending workflow tasks, so they should not need to be migrated any more.

     2.  Can Ignore the work that was already performed by workflows that are currently running and instead need to restart  them at the destination after migration. This will re-create the workflow tasks at the destination.

    THX

  • Before Migrating any Site from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint Online make sure all your running workflows instances are completed and don't create any New instances then perform a migration there after you publish the workflow once it's moved to SharePoint Online and you can work from there on.

If you migrate the workflow which is running state those workflow instances gets suspended after the migration.

If there is really nothing much to worry for the workflows you can ignore them. but in general the process is stop all the running workflow instances / wait for them to be completed and then make site unavailable for the users so, that they can't create a new ones then perform a migration in that way you have smooth migration.

  • Hi Akshay,

Why do you need save as Template, then deploy it to SharePoint Online ? when you have tool that migrates the workflows from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint Online directly.

  • Thank you Sharath,

But in our scenario the workflow statuses were mandatory to get visible on target sites(SPO sites),so that clients would be having some reference to know/track about the current status of their work.

  • Hi Dhamley,

Unfortunately when copying workflows using ShareGate Desktop, the workflow status, history and tasks will not be preserved. And I don't think any other 3rd party tools would provide the functionality as well.

Below article for your reference from Sharegate:
