Service Pack upgrade question - what services need to stop during an upgrade? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am working on upgrading a MOSS SP 2007 Service Pack 1 farm to Service Pack 3.

Before I began running the service pack, I brought down the various SharePoint services.

Do any of the sharepoint services need to be running while I am upgrading? Certainly the actual web service which would allow users access needs to be down.

But what about the timers, trace, etc.? Do people normally stop these services, or do they need to remain running while the process occurs?

  • Hi,

You need not worry out these services for the first time you are installing the upgrade, however when you find that there are issues then these services can be stopped accordingly.
