Remoting into a Windows 2000 Professional workstation from a Windows XP workstation... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.  I have been all over the internet trying to figure this out.

I have a Windows 2000 Professional computer on a domain that I cannot RDP into from my Windows XP workstation, however I have installed the RDP client on the 2000 Pro workstation and can in fact RDP into my Windows XP workstation from it.  Is there a way to enable incoming RDP sessions on the Windows 2000 Professional workstation? PLEASE HELP!!!

  • There is no native support for connecting via RDP to Windows 2000 Pro. Some alternatives you might want to look into:

    VNC
    PCAnywhere
    Dameware Remote Admin

Or, is netmeeting sufficient for your requirements?

  • VNC is free. If security is a concern, you can tunnel your VNC sessions with SSH.

  • Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately, Windows Netmeeting is not sufficient since there is no user at the location that the Win2K Pro computer is located.  Another dillemma is money.  Since I work for a government agency, they don't want to bother with licenses for anything such as PC Anywhere.  Also, this is the only 2000 box on the network.  Thanks again for your reply.
