CVE-2017-8543 - KB4024402 on Servers with Windows 2008 32 bit OS RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have scheduled emergency maintenance to our Prod servers and are applying the CVE-2017-8543 patches.  The WSUS Console reports that the KB4024402 patch for Windows 2008 32 bit servers is not needed by any server however we have 105 Windows 2008 servers of which the vast majority are 32 bit.  {The WSUS Console does not show the bit of the OS  so I don't have an exact count.}

    I manually downloaded the KB4024402 patch for Windows Server 2008 32 bit from the WSUS catalog and ran it on a Windows 2008 32 bit server.  The patch reported “The update does not apply to your system.”

    The patch KB4024402 patches the vulnerabilities in CVE-2017-8543 that allows a remote session with Administrator privileges on any server running SMB.  It is extremely import to get this patched.

    How do I get a valid KB4024402 patch for Windows Server 2008 32 bit?

  • Hi Sir,

    I'd suggest you check the files version listed in the following article (AFAIK , update may fail if there is a file with newer version ) :

  • Microsoft released new patches in July for the same issue and the Windows 2008 patch was required and did install on our servers.
