Windows v 64 bit Explorer Hangs RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been having this problem for a few weeks now. Windows Explorer hangs whenever I try to open/search for a file and the computer nearly stops responding. In the task mngr the memory usage shoots up to full and explorer eats a lot of the computer resources. I've tried  removing some programs, increasing the virtual memory size, but nothing seems to be working. The computer is getting slower by the passing day. Could you please throw some light? i'm suing a 2.6 dual core processor with 3 gb memory.

  • Hi,

First of all, please temporarily disable your anti-virus software to have a try.

In your case, I suspect your issue is caused by 3rd party shell extensions that are not functioning properly.

You may try Clean BOOT to check whether it also hangs. If so, please refer the following to check the issue.

Please download Process Explorer at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653, after you installed and executed it, it can display which DLL loaded in the explorer.exe process. It is used for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks.
