Can W10 ADK v1607 only be used with W10 1607? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I updated my ADK to 1607 but I'm having more issues than expected with my 1607 image so I'm wondering can I use the 1607 ADK w/ MDT 8443 for a 1511 WIM?

If not what's a good way to do this? I'd prefer if I could run live and test environments from one server.

  • The 1607 ADK is backward compatible with 1511. Aaron Czechowski has a blog post on this on Technet - https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/enterprisemobility/2016/09/09/configuration-manager-and-the-windows-adk-for-windows-10-version-1607/

In regards to live and production environments on the same server, I would highly recommend that you build a separate ConfigMgr infrastructure for your test environment. Doing so will enable you to upgrade to the latest revision of the product in a controlled manner and test for bugs etc, like you are experiencing at present without impacting on the production environment.

  • I see him talking about the compatibility between ADK and ConfigMgr, nothing about windows itself.

Also we are only using MDT and WSUS in our environment. Not ConfigMgr.

  • Sorry for the late reply, Technet isnt issuing notices by the looks of things...(and apologies for responding about ConfigMgr)

The 1607 ADK shouldn't have any issues with MDT building 1511. I had been using the 1607 ADK up until recently building both 1511 and 1607 releases of Windows 10.
