Orphanned Site Collection after PreUpgradeCheck RRS feed

  • Question

  • Existing MOSS 2007:

    SP2 + October 2009 CU

Very small farm with SQL Server 2005 & SharePoint on the same box.

When I do a preupgradecheck, I get this orphanned Site Collection message:

I am not seeing anything out of place in the farm. The site collection it claims to be orphanned is there and working. It is the MySite of the organization.

The SiteOrphanned rule of Microsoft is here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954774

    It recommends detach and reattach.

    Is it really a concern?

  • Yes, it is really a concern. An orphaned site may stop that particular content database from upgrading properly. Your next best step is as the article suggest which is to detach and reattach the database. Just make sure you do the detach and reattach during non-production hours as this will make that content unavailable while it is unattached.
