Word 2010 v Word 2013 tracking Changes Compatibility Issues

User 1 created a document in 2010 & sent it to a User 2 who has Word 2013. User 2 edited the document and sent it back, but user 1 cannot see the changes.

However, if User 2 creates and then amends a document in 2013 & sends it to User 1 (who has Word 2010), User 1 is able to see the changes.

Whether you are using Word 2010 or Word 2013 shouldn't make a difference. What specific changes are affected (insertions, deletions, anything else)?

Do the two Word installations make use of the same display options for tracked changes?

Hi Guernsey,

In Word 2010, check your Tracking changes setting:

On the Review tab, in the Tracking group, In the Show Markup list, choose All Reviewers to select or clear the check boxes for all reviewers in the list.

On the Review tab, in the Tracking group, click the arrow in the Display for Review box, select Final Showing Markup.
